The Provence Cure for the Brokenhearted

I checked out this book from the library about a month ago, and never found the time to read it.  After finishing a book that Kristyn suggested last week about a man's trip in central Africa (very good as well, called Malaria Dreams by Stuart Stevens), I got back into my reading spree.

I picked up this book on Monday night and finished it yesterday.  It's really hard for me to put a book down once I start.  And this book was no exception.  It was wonderful.  I'm more drawn to novels of another era, so for me to check this book out, one written in the 21st century, was a big step.

The book is about loss and love and the inbetween.  The woman lost her husband that she was madly in love with to a tragic accident.  The way she depicted the relationship between her husband and herself was almost pinpoint on how I view my relationship with my husband.  We belong to each other, meant to be together, are each other, love each other.  After 2 years she is still grieving intensely and has an 8 year old son to take care of, even though she can barely take care of herself.  Her family concocts a plan to send her to her mother's childhood home in the south of France, so that she can get away from his memories and start to breath again.  It was a beautiful book and I cried my eyes out several times, but in a good way.

If you are looking for a book to read in the shade of a tree this summer, then I suggest this one.  It's beautiful.  It's a love story told backwards.

Katie, Malaria Dreams was awesome. Kristyn, my sister in law, lent it to me. She loves all things Africa and hopes to make it there some day. The next time we are all in NY you should tell her about yours and Sharon's trip. I know she'd love to hear about it!
