Pilot Mountain Camping

This weekend we headed out to Pilot Mountain to camp with friends.

I thought I had been camping here before, but apparently, I was completely wrong.

It was pretty chilly this weekend, so I didn't sleep well, I kept waking up to make sure the kids were warm and covered by their sleeping bags.

Also, I've had pretty bad experiences with air mattresses while camping so I refuse to use them now.  During my 3 hours of tossing and turning the first night I came to the conclusion that the ground is hard.  Just plain hard.

I know I know, it's ground breaking in the world of science.

I'll need to invest in sleeping pads before our next trip.

The nights were chilly, but the days were perfectly fall in the mid 60's.

As usual, I didn't get enough pictures.  I would have liked to get a nice group shot, but I didn't.  We had fun.  Got to know some friends we didn't know too well, and met some new ones.  The fire was nice.  There were lots of rocks and the kids did a lot of falling and exploring.  I was a nervous wreck!  And out of all the falling and getting hurt the kids did, I was the only one to fall and skin my knee.  Then it got infected and I limped around and whined the whole weekend.  We ate lots of smores.   Sat around the fire...a lot.  It was cold.  When we got home, I broke my rule and turned the heat on.  I know, only a week to go, and I caved.  Apparently, I'm a wimp.  But it felt sooo nice to wake up to a warm house today!  ahhh!  I can't wait to go camping again, it had been too long, {over a year} and that's not acceptable.
